Taxotere Hair Loss Lawsuit Filed on Behalf of Breast Cancer Survivor

July 25, 2016

OAKLAND, CA –- Gibbs Law Group has filed a federal lawsuit against Sanofi-Aventis alleging that the company failed to warn breast cancer patients that they may experience permanent, disfiguring hair loss, or alopecia, following the use of its Taxotere (docetaxel) chemotherapy product.

The complaint alleges that the defendants were aware, based on multiple studies and physician’s reports, that patients who took Taxotere could experience permanent disfiguring hair loss, and that the company warned doctors, patients, and regulatory agencies in other countries of the risk, but withheld the information from patients and doctors in the United States. The complaint also alleges that Sanofi-Aventis did not inform women that they had an alternative option to treat with Taxol, a less potent and equally effective chemotherapy drug.

“We believe that in the case of Taxotere, patients and doctors were not adequately informed as to side effects associated with the medication, and many women have suffered serious disfigurement as a result.”
“When a manufacturer chooses not to provide full disclosure of the potential risks of a medication, it deprives doctors and patients from making informed decisions about what drug is right for them, and as a result, people suffer injuries unnecessarily,” said Karen Menzies, one of the lead attorneys litigating the case and a co-chair of the American Association for Justice Taxotere Litigation group.
