On Thursday, July 7, 2016, David Stein will present a webinar entitled “Perspectives on Automotive Class Action Litigation” sponsored by Strafford Publishers. David will provide the plaintiff-side perspective on a variety of issues in automotive class action cases, including the makings of a strong auto case, legal strategies related to jurisdiction, discovery, experts, damages and settlement, and discussion of vehicle recalls and attorney fee awards. David and his co-presenter will also provide commentary on the future of automotive class actions, and ways that the practice and litigation is likely to change and develop in the coming years.

On June 8, 2016, United States District Court Judge Josephine Staton appointed Eric Gibbs to serve as co-lead counsel in the In re: Vizio, Inc., Consumer Privacy Litigation. Attorneys from across the United States submitted applications to lead the litigation on behalf of consumers who alleged that Vizio Smart TVs track what viewers watch and match the information to customers’ IP addresses, and that Vizio sells the information about customers’ TV habits for profit. Judge Staton’s order appointed Eric and a co-lead to coordinate and oversee the litigation on behalf of the plaintiffs, and created a four-person Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee to support the efforts.

Girard Gibbs LLP partner Eric Gibbs has been invited to speak at an advanced, one-day seminar concerning Automobile Class Actions with Global Ramifications, to be held December 2, 2015, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Presented by Law Seminars International, the Global Auto Defect Class Action seminar will feature leading national litigators from across the country, who will address the complexities of multidistrict litigation and multinational investigations through a series of nine presentations.

On November 2, 2015 U.S. District Court Judge Dolly M. Gee denied The Jewelry Channel, Inc. USA’s motion to dismiss plaintiffs’ complaint in Kabbash v. The Jewelry Channel, Inc. USA. According to the lawsuit, The Jewelry Channel operates a 24/7 television channel called Liquidation Channel that sells jewelry and accessories to customers. The lawsuit alleges that Liquidation Channel misrepresents the nature and amount of item discounts by fabricating “estimated retail values” that don’t represent accurate prices for the items sold.
