A.J. de Bartolomeo and Karen Barth Menzies Present at Harris Martin MDL Conference

A.J. de Bartolomeo and Karen Barth Menzies presented at the recent “MDL Conference,” sponsored by Harris Martin Publishing. AJ presented a summary briefing on the due process requirements of class action notice and the related proposed amendments to the Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 23. Karen’s discussion highlighted cases involving proton pump inhibitor heartburn medications, such as Nexium and Prilosec.

The conference on complex, multi-district litigation proceedings (MDLs), included a wide array of topics, from environmental cases to ongoing women’s health litigation (including Taxotere, Essure and talcum powder), to a variety of drug and device lawsuits. The conference also focused on some procedural issues in MDLs, including claims and notices, as well as settlements and multi-plaintiff trials.

Karen serves in leadership positions in some of the largest pharmaceutical mass tort cases and she has been particularly focused on women’s health issues. She currently represents women suffering permanent baldness following breast cancer chemotherapy treatments with Taxotere, and individuals who experienced serious kidney injuries after taking PPI heartburn medications, including Nexium and Prilosec. She also advocates for women who developed ovarian cancer after using talcum powder.
